Abel Bellows is a first-year in Canaday from Brooklyn, NY. He is currently planning to concentrate in Chemistry and English with a potential secondary in Computer Science. Highly involved in Jewish communities in Brooklyn and at Harvard, he is passionate about leading artful and intentional prayer, teaching students at all levels of knowledge and observance, and exploring traditional and contemporary Jewish text. His studies as a Bronfman Fellow and his experiences navigating Jewish pluralism and ideological difference around Israel inspired him to join the IVSB to help engage a wider audience in respectful and constructive dialogue. Abel is currently part of the Hillel student committee working to revitalize traditional-egalitarian prayer on Shabbat mornings.
Abel’s academic interests are interdisciplinary; he enjoys exploring the intersection of the humanities and the sciences and believes that surprising new insights emerge from combining these often separate areas of study. This belief drives Abel’s interest in ancient oral traditions as a chazzan, avid knitter, and Irish fiddle player.
As a member of the IVSB, Abel is looking forward to hosting a robust group of speakers at Harvard, touching on the issues of the day and sparking dialogue around challenging issues.
Let’s agree to disagree well.
