Sophia Moraczewski ’29
Sophia Moraczewski is a sophomore studying Comparative Literature and Math from Washington D.C.
She is struck by Intellectual Vitality’s emphasis on engaging in conversations with people with whom one disagrees without the goal of compromise–rather, with the goal of better understanding both the other’s perspective and one’s own.
Last year, realizing her fellow first-years were eager to disagree but needed impetus to broach controversial topics, Sophia and Abel Bellows started Berg Banter, a weekly late-night gathering in Annenberg where first-years discuss contentious issues. Seeking an intellectually curious campus where students who have never before met can ask questions of and challenge one another, she hopes to continue creating opportunities for honest, informed discussion within and beyond the classroom.
Sophia also plays clarinet, directs Harvard’s Habitat for Humanity chapter, and is a member of the Honor Council. When not on the third floor of Lamont, you will find her running, perusing used bookstores, drinking coffee, or trying to learn new instruments.
