Sofia Mikulasek '27
Sofia Mikulasek is a philosophy concentrator who lives off-campus (but is proudly affiliated with Currier!). Her academic work focuses on the intersection of the philosophy of language, mind, and epistemology, and so she has a special interest in what it takes to say that one has understood another's idea--and what it is to have a substantial idea in the first place, something that perhaps cannot be done without intercession. This question (and apparent paradox) is the seed of her interest in Intellectual Vitality, and she hopes to help make intellectually difficult conversation a more deeply integrated part of the Harvard education through the committee's work.
Before Harvard, Sofia graduated from Deep Springs College, where she chaired the Curriculum Committee and worked as a student cowboy (leading to many opportunities for inter-species conversation). Her time engaging in St. John's-style seminars while there has provided a counterpoint to the lecture-heavy style of education at Harvard, and she hopes to bring her perspective on the perils and possibilities of a laissez-faire classroom to discussions about the College's approach to pedagogy. At Harvard, she is on the Features board for the Harvard Advocate, edits for the Harvard Review of Philosophy, serves on the SAB for the humanities division, and is an undergraduate fellow at the Safra Center for Ethics.
